An Entry Point Into The Creation Account

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Firstly, the account does not say there was any other creation before the heavens and the Earth. We can only assume that God stated "In the beginning" because He meant it so. We may assume that this creation of His is the very first,.. which is an effective defense against the presence of evil. If "the problem of evil" is such that it requires an answer; for in testing evil within this creation, we may assume whatever solution such a problem would require may be finally found after this creation has "passed away".

The scripture tells us that first of all God created the heavens and the earth: The rest of the account is not an explanation of "how" - rather the earth is present in the beginning in all but solidity: The rest of the account is such as to explain how God's creative "idea" - of His "intent" became what was - and what was done to make the earth solid and stand on its own. (As more than an idea.)

We are told that the earth as it was created was without form, (it was merely as intangible as an idea, not being truly existent, though contingent on God's creative effort it was not contingently existent upon any other natural first cause, but rather was contingently existent upon God's requirement to "think of it". The earth was also void - Without the continual creative presence and sustenance of the divine "idea" of the earth, it had no existence. God would have to instantiate a first cause for the creation He desired - it needed a past to be contingent upon.

We are told that darkness was upon the face of the deep. We will see later that the "darkness", God names "night" which in the dictionary is a twisting or "folding back upon itself". We will relate this to relativistic paradox: as well as causality and relativity itself: (A closed path in space-time requires some form of "time-travel" to return to the starting moment in time.) But for now we can simply state that this darkness is for lack of a better term, "causally contradictory". That darkness was on the face of the deep (waters) we see that all of the "heavens" God created were, as in the case of the earth and it's matter, (matter being "dry land" - see later") likewise without form and void, but in a separate sense , not being "solid" but with a clear sense of endless depth; one could assume there is no distinction between past, present and future, no laws of causality.

We are told that the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters, (Where waters analogously means "urine" or "wastewater"). God may be thought to say that to expend energy into the deep is to find one's self spent without profit, only seeing that strength wasted: there is no force to make something without cause exist, if it indeed does exist. Neither may creation be necessarily existent. It must have a first cause: it can not be made to exist simply because someone said, "It is".

The main difference between "the deep" and "the waters" is that the deep is without limit to its depth, and the waters are those parts of the deep that are used in creation to "house" its first cause, but which the creation was not truly ever present within. (We may consider that God only acts upon the present (the firmament.) The waters are those parts of the deep upon which God makes His creative act rest (as becoming contingent.) The "face" of the deep , (its "front" or the "entry point" for God's six day work) is in the same place as "the waters" upon which the spirit of God began to move in creation. The "waters" may be considered to be the locale within the deep where God decided to place His creation.

This may seem hard to grasp, but we will move on in syncronicity with the scriptures.
