Two Great Lights, Gravity & Electromagnetism

Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Gen 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
Gen 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
Gen 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

We have our definition of "day" and "night" as the observable and unreachable parts of spacetime, (the firmament) as those parts reachable in proper time or not respectively.

We can equate these two great lights, to gravity as over the night, and electromagnetism over the day. Gravity is a curvature of space-time that allows circuitous time-like orbits of planets in regular periods, (the requirements of v14) and electromagnetism is a wave formed of quantised packets that classically transmits as a wave that induces its waveform by varying electric and magnetic potential in polarised form.

Geeky stuff aside, gravity allows orbits and light lets us view them.

Electromagnetism is a far stronger force than gravity: the force of the atoms in the floor stopping you from sinking like quicksand is far stronger than the gravity pulling you down to the floor. The former force is electromagnetism (EM).

The greater light in truth rules over the day: it is a fact that in general EM waves travel in free space at the speed of light. (Light is an EM wave.) EM waves rule the fabric of causality: we can not exceed the speed of light - we would not agree on cause and effect if this were so. The observable universe is limited to only those objects that travel slower than the speed of light, and also that emit light and absorb it. All molecular matter in atomic form does just that, emit and transmit light.

Gravity however rules over paradox: we should state that there is much research into black holes: when the curvature of space time becomes enough to make time appear to stand still to an observer, then the object is either travelling at the speed of light, or has passed the event horizon of a black hole. In reality the object in the latter case has been absorbed into the hole, but it is never observed to do so from outside.

Gravity then in the curvature of space time allows no "time travel" to the past by reason of its curvature, and in such heavily curved regions where space-like curves may seem to permit such travel to the past, there is then required "continuity" within the spacetime manifold (and in order for the "connection" to remain symmetric), we require mass (or an equivalent energy density to create gravity) to provide the curvature for the warping of the surfaces of spacetime. Then, if we get enough effective mass, we also cause a black hole by reason of the densities involved.

Likewise EM rules over the day relativistically. A particle travelling at the speed of light undergoes time dilation to a static observer. Time appears to stand still for the wave from the static viewers perspective. A fast car travelling at the speed of light will reach its destination in zero time, even though its speed appears finite to the static observer. Likewise, the zero-time of the light or EM wave shows that everywhere in the observable universe (or day) along the wave's direction of travel is effectively traversed by the wave at the same moment.

Similarly Gravity rules over the curvature of the spacetime manifold. Points on the surface that may be possibly traversed by matter are called "time-like" curves and those that are plausibly able to cause paradox are called "space-like". Gravity ensures that every point on the surface of the manifold that is time-like to a particular body is still "the present" at every point on the time-like curve under any condition of gravity, and that the "proper time" of the space-like curves are not also positive, but are actually complex distances, and not able to be traversed. Even in extreme situations as the black hole prior, the universe will not permit curvature to show space-like curves as possible - gravity creates densities of matter and curvature too great to allow an energy distribution to accumulate so high as to create a space-like curve without the presence of an event horizon.

Just as EM waves travel in zero time,.. the curvature of space time allows every point on a timelike curve to be "a plausible 'present' time" for possible motion of a body.

So which is day and which is night? Clearly as we had supposed from the text - we simply note that EM waves actually do travel at 'c' (a universal speed limit). We also note that gravity actually does curve spacetime due to matter (energy density) to create black holes in preference to space-like curves. (I.e. no time travel to cause paradox.)

Verse 17 shows God set the EM and gravitational forces in the present to give light to the Earth. (to keep it observable.) He did so to set limits as to speed as well as curvature of space time, (as equivalently E=mc^2) in the text to rule over day and night, to divide the light from the darkness - i.e. what is observable from what is not, from what is possible and what is paradox. Again God saw that this very real creation of these forces was good. He then tests it again as a matter of course and it indeed survived on its own.

There is the caveat that in v16 it is written God made the stars also. That would include our own sun.

We now move on to the creation of life (by God's defininition) - the moving creatures we know today.
