The Flood In The Days Of Noah

I break the creation account into parts;

-- Click To Expand/Collapse Bible Verses -- Gen ch6:v5-8
Gen 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Gen 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Gen 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. (KJV)

Now, I may only assume that God repented of creating man for the evil men do; the Earth became evidence against the creating hand of a perfect God and instead becomes evidence that that God is wicked. God decided to destroy man and replace Him with the line of Noah; although Noah, a just man would after the flood have to make re-acquaintance with a much different world as we shall discover.

-- Click To Expand/Collapse Bible Verses -- Gen ch6:v9-16
Gen 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
Gen 6:10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Gen 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
Gen 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
Gen 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Gen 6:14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
Gen 6:15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
Gen 6:16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. (KJV)

Noah was perfect in his generations; not a statement of genetic purity but one that his family line and all his sons alive with him were monogamous, and not "wicked" like all the sons of men were at that time. (Seeking status to become "mighty men", "great names" or as clans with an alpha male.)

Now, God had judged the earth so that all flesh upon it will die. That said, they do not drown; for we have an alternative meaning for waters in the creation account and we may apply that lexicon to this tale of Noah and we shall see what was instead, a judgement of God that He left that wicked mankind to his own ways and fate; and men died out quite naturally, coming from dust and returning to it within a short aeon. Life however remained and we see the results under the processes of time of that life upon the Earth in museums and fossilised remains and I would be an idiot to state that God put them there to deceive us.

Gen 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
Gen 6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
Gen 6:19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
Gen 6:20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
Gen 6:21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
Gen 6:22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Gen 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
Gen 7:2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
Gen 7:3 Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.
Gen 7:4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
Gen 7:5 And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him. (KJV)

As God informs Noah of His judgement, He instructs Noah to bring all his own animals inside the ark with Him and God brings to them enough other animals to preserve Noah and His flock in the ark. and God provided that food chain "to keep them alive" (v20).

Noah alone with his family were righteous before God, and after the flood we see Him returning to the world (with other men also) as a "light to all nations" being in some sense a uniquely "enlightened" man amongst a world of new civilisations, prepared for the continuation of God's plan of salvation, His covenant, which we may only suppose is or was, on hold for all that time.

-- Click To Expand/Collapse Bible Verses -- Gen ch7:v6-12
Gen 7:6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
Gen 7:7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
Gen 7:8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
Gen 7:9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
Gen 7:10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
Gen 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
Gen 7:12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. (KJV)

Now the mechanism of the flood begins to move Noah through time to what we would consider late "pre-history". However, we are given another glimpse of the flood account in the New Testament, for which we may take note.

2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
2Pe 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. (KJV)

The Earth, standing both out and in the water (Being before its creator either justified or unjustifiably a work of a perfect God's hands.) is the creation of God. The world that was 'before' perished for its evil and was remade with a continuing remnant of a single family (Noah's) with whom God would make His covenant - so that from the beginning God's work is justified and not upon a complete failure with a second attempt. By the same judgement upon us also, that we would either justify or fail to justify the work of God's hands, the world is reserved to its last day when all the just and unjust are raised and likewise judged upon that covenant.

Gen 7:13 In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;
Gen 7:14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.
Gen 7:15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.
Gen 7:16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
Gen 7:17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
Gen 7:18 And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.
Gen 7:19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.
Gen 7:20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. (KJV)

The ark was lifted "high" above the Earth: Now we do not confuse the word "up" with time travel , rather the ark is lifted up so that the deluge covering the earth should not harm it and the two systems, inside and outside the ark are properly separated.

Now to our lexicon; we may consider the waters again as "space-time" and explain as before the word-images given us in the scriptural account. (Are they consistent?)

The rain that fell was simply the flux of space-time through the firmament (The visible arch of the sky - the present) So that time passed more speedily for the world than it did for Noah in the ark high above the Earth. (I apologise that the flux or "rain" is pictured moving through a "window of heaven" rather than the point at the centre of Noah's light cone, but it is somewhat a small space in which to fit the flux! I hope you get the idea.).

The present is an effect of the past upon which it rests contingent. Since the speed of light is the universal speed limit, any two events may be possibly causally linked if it is possible to travel at the speed of light between one and the other. This results in a space-time diagram with a pair of "light cones", whose slope is equal to the speed of light.

Likewise the Earth was contingent on its created past, and existed standing out of that past (waters) then, being totally overflown rather than destroyed and assigned to the distant past completely, it perished and the world that God placed for us after the receding of the waters is set in store for judgement by God having changed the causes (fountains) of the deep (past) and the destination for its future (the windows of heaven.) Notice the "shape" of the "fountain" in the picture below, itself similar to a "fountain" in shape, like a "shoot of water that parts into a cone at the top."

Noah's family were the "saved in the ark" rather than the covered "world" standing out of the waters within which the earth of the past was then overflowed (completely covered) with water, (left to the ravages of time, natural selection and all.) and indeed in that sense mankind was destroyed by their own evil - unlike those in the ark (as it were 'in' Christ) whom survived. Then we have a simple explanation as to why "the mountains were covered" - it is a "word picture" of the work of God, and not of the flood literally covering mountains that are only 15 cubits tall.

There is then another simple analogy for the "high hills" that were covered in Ch7:v19. The "mountains" in the text has the dictionary definition of a "range of hills". It is no coincidence that the full range of past events - all "high hills" under the heaven (firmament - the present) would fill (cover) the range of that which constitutes the "mountains."

So then, with Noah transported into the far future from the ancient and distant past, we need only supply the observation that the flood is simply the action of time killing off life (and man) by natural selection and extinctions happen. God as the creator is truly "nature's God".

-- Click To Expand/Collapse Bible Verses -- Gen ch7:v21-24
Gen 7:21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:
Gen 7:22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.
Gen 7:23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
Gen 7:24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days. (KJV)

God's mechanism for moving Noah into the future is simply by "remembering him". God; had not bothered to wait, but had been with Noah all the way.

-- Click To Expand/Collapse Bible Verses -- Gen ch8:v1-5
Gen 8:1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;
Gen 8:2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
Gen 8:3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.
Gen 8:4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.
Gen 8:5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. (KJV)

The waters abated - that is, the dry land appeared, or the "new matter" of the now much older (as apparently older) earth appearing. This follows the stopping of the fountains and windows: The past is finalised and 'plugged' as well as the world's future set at the judgement. The ark settles upon a place with a real geographic location we know today. (In Turkey, In the mountain range in the text.)

-- Click To Expand/Collapse Bible Verses -- Gen ch8:v6-13
Gen 8:6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
Gen 8:7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
Gen 8:8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;
Gen 8:9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
Gen 8:10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;
Gen 8:11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
Gen 8:12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.
Gen 8:13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. (KJV)

After the earth is once more "causally fixed" and the waters abate, (and by figure the existence of Noah and his animals is once more contingent upon this new world, in turn resting upon its own now ancient past.) With the ark now resting upon it's new ancient past, we have in our analogy, the "tops of the mountains were seen."

Whilst Noah tests for the waters to be abated; we do not see that there is a covered ground: rather we see that the birds are released and return only when they are able to feed on what is outside - The world God is re-engineering must be able to support them; and if it is not yet compatible then Noah must need wait in the ark for God to finish work. We are told in ch8:v13 that finally as Noah exited the ark the ground was dry. (There never was any "water") But the world itself was solid: and God we assume returned to resting.

Now, we can see from Ch.7:v20 that it appears the ark was halfway "in and out" of the water, (being 30 cubits high); and this last detail should prove the stickler, if there be much sense in this hypothesised "rain". It is almost the very allegory of Christ being baptised with a sprinkling of rain (water) from heaven - the image of the Holy Spirit lighting on Him with the making of God's covenant with Noah, putting His bow in the clouds.

We can only imagine the rising waters (the past) coming within 15 forearms' lengths of the "present": being half the height of the ark. But "up" in our space time diagram was merely the time axis and not the x, y or z axis; so the "past" properly put, encroached within half the (distance of the) time of the ark. (The only remaining "present" was in or about the ark, and so how could it possibly be that the ark was half in the present and half out? - Then was it in the future?)

Now the definition of the word "cubits" in Gen Ch.7:v20 is;

H520 ????
(Trans.) 'ammah
(Phon.) am-maw'
Prolonged from H517; properly a mother (that {is} unit) of {measure} or the forearm (below the {elbow}) that {is} a cubit; also a door base (as a bond of the entrance): - {cubit} + hundred [by exchange for {H3967]} {measure} post.

So, the distance the waters prevailed in time was more effectively, 15 "mothers" or generations from the moment the rain began until the purpose for the work was completed: when man through his own wickedness had died out as if naturally. (God, does not use the word "generations" for those that perished. Only Noah was "perfect" in His generations.) After the ark was borne above the Earth, man died out inside fifteen further generations: It would appear that God had now completely withdrawn His hand from blessing marriages and new births.

Generations is translated from the word;

H8435 ????? ??????
(Trans.) towldah
(Phon.) to-led-aw'
From H3205; (plural only) {descent} that {is} family; (figuratively) history: - {birth} generations.

So to avoid using a word that means "descent" to describe births that had not strictly occurred "as yet" is to be consistent with the account: "Generations" is as if it were "past tense". ("Mothers" is as if "looking forward".)

At that point in the text; of the very maximum of the deluge where (or when) the past was completely overflown with time and the present then seemingly replaced; the "mountains" (or most recent light-cones) were covered. So fifteen cubits "upward" then indicates that the mountains (light cones) or the present itself were as if "in flux" for a duration of "fifteen cubits" (mothers); regardless, there was a small "bubble" of space-time outside the ark and outside of that bubble the Earth was being re-engineered. Within the bubble, there may have been to Noah the normal flux of local space-time. If man continued only fifteen generations further - then the length of time that the ark was borne up above the Earth is indeterminate, and may indeed be billions of years.

The ark was both borne up on the face of the waters as well as resting half in and half out. It would appear that Noah, sealed in the ark by God was not sealed in by pitch or tar but by itself being a small "local universe" or "bubble" of space time that traveled "upward" faster through the time in the proper universe than the equivalent time passed inside the ark; and this strange equivalent to buoyancy is not given us; but it appears to have been equally observed. The result? A huge order of magnitude in the difference between Noah's proper-time and the observed (measured) time in the physical universe we see here today.

So, before the flood had ended there may in fact have been many dinosaurs; but... man was made from "the dust of the earth" (with no fossil record) being too ancient or too recent; and the flood truly is nothing to scoff at. If it had been absent altogether from the bible and remade into a science fiction story complete with space-time and four-dimensional engineering and what is essentially a "re-terraforming", no doubt it would also have sold very well!

(KJV)

We should note the "heavens were of old" (very old, some apparent 4 billion years for the earth or 13 billion to the apparent moment of creation according to Hubble's law) and also that "heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store". Respectively, the earth is then not much younger than it appears, and the present (firmament) is kept standing in its existence whilst neither implying (or not) that the creator exists. This world then logically permits the presence of evil against the will (and thus apparent existence) of its creator, whether He is existent over it or not - all evil being judged later; leaving the evil in effect until the final judgement and the matter of good and evil is settled.

Antediluvian man died out (quite naturally) as dust at the beginning due to his own evil, and so man is a relatively new development aside from Noah's family whom alone survived to tell the tale. (Preserving the lineage of Noah and the short list of generations). No wonder the story of the flood is dismissed as a fable; since the only trustworthy source we have for the tale is from God. I can yet say "apparent past" because what does God need to wait for? He was with Noah all the way! The "rain" through the firmament is told from God's perspective and not from those that perished due to an apparent or extra 4 billion years.

Man, is then modern and reworked - but presumably genetically similar to Noah. Noah then being the remnant or "salt of the earth" that made man (salt) salty again. As Noah - (the only remnant) is the sole evidence in the gene-pool that man has a creator aside from God's own work through the prophets and Jesus Christ.

This accounts for:

1) The fossil record.

2) The truthfully apparent and very large age of the Earth.

3) God not slaughtering all those young defenseless children whom lived to a grand old age and went the way of all things.

4) God not dumbing down - Moses was dictated to; but God also speaks to us.

5) God may preserve His words even after several thousand years.

6) God does not need to invent fables - every animal two by two etc. The animals came to Noah, he wasn't hunted by them!

7) Some very odd and curious finds! ["Forbidden Archaeology", Michael A. Cremo and Richard L. Thompson, Unlimited Resources/BBT Science Books]

8) God's curse "To Dust Thou Shalt Return" also makes some sense of this: a human-barren Earth (while Noah was yet being saved) led to all other humans being very "quickly extinct" and no further evidence of Him has been found. Current finds appear very young indeed by any and all comparison.

I see no evidence in the scriptures to suggest that Noah was alone after the flood had receded. Presumably there were other animals, and so other people are a possibility; though; they may have tried to explain the event through acts like the building of Stonehenge etc. - as to why in their tribes they would all have spoken in a common tongue? With no others with any writing and learning, we see Noah as the only articulate man in Christ; baptised as a light to all nations. A little learning goes a long way, especially in God's eyes.
